Årets kanske mest kontroversiella film på festivalen kommer från Singapore. A Wicked Tale är skriven och regisserad av den 25-åriga undergroundfilmaren Tzang Merwyn Tong och har gått för utsålda hus på prestigefyllda filmfestivaler som t.ex. den i Rotterdam. Med utgångspunkt i Charles Perraults och Bröderna Grimms versioner av sagan om Rödluvan och Vargen, har Tzang valt att lyfta fram sagans erotiska och våldsamma undertoner, samtidigt som han har berikat den med en modern feministisk vändning.

What might be this year’s most controversial film of the festival comes from Singapore. A Wicked Tale is written and directed by 25-year-old underground filmmaker Tzang Merwyn Tong, and it has been sold out at many of the prestigious film festivals where it has been screened, for example Rotterdam Film Festival. With the fairy tale of Little Red Riding Hood, as told by Charles Perrault and the Brothers Grimm, as a starting point, Tzang has chosen to put his emphasis on the violent and erotic undertones of the tale, while at the same time enriching it with a modern feminist turn.

Filmen använder sig av olika stilelement - från stumfilmstiden, marionetteater samt skräck- och experimentfilm - men tillsammans bildar de en unik filmisk vision. I rollen som Louis Le Bon ser vi den svenske rocksångaren Johan Ydstrand.

Vi vill passa på att varna känsliga besökare för några av filmens våldsamma och sexuellt provokativa scener. Filmen visas efter Shin Angyo Onshi.

The film uses different elements of style - from the silent era movies, puppetry and experimental and splatter films - but together they form a unique cinematic vision. The role of Louis Le Bon is played by Swedish rock singer Johan Ydstrand.

STORY: Little girl Beth is on her way to grandma with a basket full of food and drink, when she suddenly meets the mysterious Louis Le Bon, who turns out to be a wolf in sheep’s clothing. For when she arrives at grandma’s house, Louis Le Bon has brutally killed grandma, and he’s now waiting to seduce the seemingly innocent Beth. But nothing is what it used to be in the safe and secure world of the fairy tale, and after a couple of twists and turns the film reaches for a surprising and shocking climax.
